Rest
This last week was one for the books. Many long days with work and the stress that comes with being in negotiations with employers who clearly don’t value their employees in any meaningful way. By Friday evening, I was toast. I told my husband that this week-end, all I wanted to do was garden and create. Yesterday, I played in the dirt. I started with planting the seeds for the tomato plants, yellow peppers and black sunflowers I want to…

Rescued
During my divorce, I moved to an apartment that was about a block and a half away from the Pacific Ocean. From my balcony and over the canopy of trees, I could see the ocean. If I left my sliding glass doors open (I had three! One in the master bedroom, guest room and living room.), I could hear the ocean. I loved that apartment, but I also needed something to motivate me to leave it. That’s when Dixie came…

Let me tell you about Sophronia
Sophronia Thrush is my great-great grandmother on my dad’s side of the family. I never knew of her existence until a few years ago. After my separation from the ex-husband, I was looking for a place to live. I needed to be some place that would bring me healing from the hell of the last six months I spent trying to save a 32 year relationship. I’m a water girl by nature and soul as I was born in a…

Self Care when Life is Busy
This week is going to be a hectic one for me. I have negotiations in three different places which started yesterday. I also have a couple of days with negotiations starting early (think 8ish) and other meetings in the late afternoon/early evening. Thankful to Marley Spoon as I won’t have to think about what to fix for dinner in the evenings. When things are hectic like this, it’s hard to incorporate movement into my daily routine. I’m trying to incorporate…

Be Fabulous
Somehow I stumbled upon this app called Fabulous (here’s a link to try for free – I think it’s first come, first serve. What I love about this app is that it’s all about building up healthy habits based on what you want to achieve. It’s not focused on dieting or making you feel bad about yourself. When I first started the app, it took me through a series of questions in order to hone in on the areas that…

Towels
I have the best new husband ever. Since he’s mostly retired and I still work full-time, he does most of the every day housework that needs to be done around here. While I mostly fix dinner on the daily (now with help from Martha Stewart’s food delivery service, Marley Spoon), he does the dishes, the laundry, making the bed, weekly cleanings of our bed sheets, and various other tasks that need to be done. Housework is NOT one of my…

Slow Down
There was a lot to hate about the pandemic, like not being able to see loved ones, hanging out with your neighbors, traveling, dining out and all the ugliness that a certain orange one encouraged in his followers. There was a lot I hated about it and I greatly struggled in the first few months of it. I did not know how to handle the slow pace of it. The endless relentlessness of being confined in a home that I…
